Este juego sigue la historia aunque primeramente se había especulado sobre que en esta edición se cerraría la saga de Ash, luego fue desmentido, alegando que dicha saga terminaría con la próxima entrega, en The King of Fighters XIII; además de eso, personajes como Iori Yagami y Ash Crimson muestran cambios que tienen qué ver con lo ocurrido en el juego anterior, como el hecho de que Iori ya no posee sus características llamas púrpuras, debido a que Ash robó su magatama. The King of Fighters XII (KOF XII) es la duodécima entrega de la saga The King of Fighters.

Cuando se abra presionamos la tecla "N" 3 veces luego presionamos Enter.

Press a button for P1 joystick U: (Arriba)

Press a button for P1 joystick R: (Derecha) 

Press a button for P1 button 1: (A* Puño débil) 

Press a button for P1 button 2: (C* Puño fuerte) 

Press a button for P1 button 3: (No hace nada) 

Press a button for P1 button 4: (B* Patada débil) 

Press a button for P1 button 5: (D* Patada fuerte) 

Press a button for P1 button 6: (No hace nada) 

Press a button for P1 button start: (Start) 

Press a button for P1 button coin: (Coin) 

Press a button for P1 button service: (No hace nada, pero cuando lo presionas suena) 

Luego saldrá lo mismo para el player 2 o P2.

Luego saldrán dos opciones: 

Press a button for test: (Presiona cualquier cosa) 

Press a button for exit: (Presiona Esc)
